A little bit of our history...

In 2003, fundraising supported activists organizing for and traveling to mass demonstrations (travel costs, housing, food, copying materials, art supplies, project supplies and tools, communication tools, etc.). At the years' end it was evident that this was not sustainable - it is more than full-time work to plan and implement mobilizations, local campaigns, and guide numerous projects through development to fruition - funding was desperately needed to support organizers full-time, not just while they are away on campaigns.

In 2004, Adopt-an-Activist became truly dedicated to creating a financial support base for independent activists and in the last part of the year began the process of becoming a 501(c)(3) public foundation to fund skilled, independent activists.
